Mountain City was an important stop in the mid 1800’s for stage coaches and cattle drives between Austin and San Antonio. But with the completion of the railroad to the east of Mountain City linking Austin and San Marcos, the city quickly declined. However, recent development in the area around Mountain City has placed this community in a well positioned spot again.
Homes in the neighborhood of Mountain City are situated on large half acre+ lots. The neighborhood enjoys many mature oaks and other native trees providing beauty, shade and character. Mountain City is a well established community with most of the homes built from the mid 1980’s through the 1990’s.
Located about 10 miles north of San Marcos and about 20 miles south of downtown Austin. West of IH-35, along FM-2770. Mountain City Oaks is convenient to the nearby Plum Creek Golf Course, minutes away from Kyle Crossing complex filed with stores, restaurants, medical and banking facilities.
Mountain City Oaks is situated just next door to Hays High and Barton Middle Schools. Nearby is the Exemplary rated Negley Elementary. Coming soon will be Austin Community College’s newest campus.
